The idea behind Outfitward came from a very simple situation that millions of people experience every day. Many of my friends spent time every day wondering what to wear. I found myself doing exactly the same thing. Even though my wardrobe was full of clothes, I often felt as if I had nothing to wear. That led me to ask myself a simple question: If I already have enough clothes, why do I still feel the need to buy more? I realised the problem wasn't the amount of clothing I owned. The real issue was not knowing how to create different outfit combinations from the clothes already in my wardrobe. It then occurred to me that if we were experiencing this problem, millions of other people probably were too. That's how Outfitward was born: a platform designed to help you get the most from the clothes you already own, without spending money on new items that will probably end up forgotten at the back of your wardrobe.
While developing the project, I researched other wardrobe and outfit recommendation apps. Many of them use artificial intelligence to suggest outfits, but I noticed two common problems. The first is that they often generate the same outfit combinations repeatedly, so the recommendations quickly become repetitive. The second is that some even encourage you to buy new clothes to complete an outfit. That means spending more money when, in reality, most people already have a wardrobe full of clothes they rarely wear. Outfitward was created to change that way of thinking. Our goal isn't to encourage you to buy more clothes. Instead, we help you discover fresh outfit combinations using only the clothes you already own.
Simply upload photos of your clothes once. The more items you add, the better your recommendations will be. Our AI analyses your wardrobe and generates between three and five different outfit suggestions each day, tailored to: the weather, the occasion (whether it's work, leisure, special events, holidays or travel), and the clothes you actually own. This means that every morning, or whenever you need an outfit, you'll have fresh ideas ready to wear without wasting time deciding what to put on.
One of Outfitward's most innovative features is its ability to work offline. If you know you'll be travelling, using the Underground, or spending time somewhere without internet access, you can prepare your wardrobe in the app beforehand. The AI can continue generating outfit recommendations using the information securely stored on your device, so you'll always have suggestions available wherever you are. As soon as your device reconnects to the internet, your wardrobe data and any newly generated outfit recommendations are automatically synchronised with your account. This feature is included with the Premium subscription.
